So, what are the best music shops in Adelaide?

I have been shopping for music instruments around SA since I was 12 years old when I picked out my first guitar from the long since closed John Reynolds Music formerly of Waymouth St.

In terms of size and range. Derringers on Leader St is probably the largest selection of instruments around Adelaide. They have a great guitar and drum section. Knowledgeable staff that don't mind you trying out the instruments and answering questions. Typically happy to make a bit of a deal also if you ask! They have a nice range of amazing acoustic guitars from Martins and Taylor guitars to baby Yamaha guitars (highly recommended first guitar brand). If you're looking for an Acoustic, Electric or Drum kit. This would be my recommended first stop.

Frets and Stix Music Co. is owned and run by Andy Griffiths, well known drummer and musician. Its a small store but the staff are excellent and they also teach lessons out of the shop. This is one of the first places I ever had music lessons over 20 years ago. Its a bit of a smaller store but have a varied range, mostly catering to the midrange, with some at either end of the spectrum. Its a great option down south. Southern Music is also another great one to check out if you're south of Adelaide. They have a big range with lots of guitars and ukuleles. I have even seen them around at Markets in the past with a selection of instruments.

Treble & Bass is the one I use the most these days, mostly because its located closer to where I live but they have a good little shop with a good range of beginner and midrange equipment. They have plenty of accessories if you need some picks, drum sticks or strings its an easy choice. Check it out if you're an Adelaide Hills dweller.

Harrison Music is also recommended for a good range and friendly, helpful staff. They have a fairly good range all the way from beginner to professional gear. I havent actually been into the store for years but hear good things regularly on the grapevine and my mum chooses to shop there. Which likely means the service is still as good as I remembered.

There are plenty of online shops to check out if you are looking for smaller items but I do highly recommend going in and trying out your instruments before you buy them!
